Live sound is a
world of its own and can be even more confusing than its studio
counterparts. There are many more components to consider
and solutions that need answered:
- Should I go with a
Dynamic or Condenser microphone for vocals? Cardioid or Super
Cardioid? What about Ribbons?
- Which is better,
Active Speakers or Passive with separate Power Amps and
Crossovers? How do I properly power these cabinets,
and without delay?
- I want to record my
live shows, how do I integrate this into a system that is
already at its max running stage and in-ear monitors?
- Wireless Mics and
In-Ear systems, there are so many options to choose
from...so which one(s)?
- Do I stay analog or
go digital for FOH? WHERE DOES IT END?

There
is NO SUCH THING as "one size fits all" when it comes to
live sound, so why choose a "this is the most popular system"
type of package from someone who doesn't truly have the
real-world experience or even understands the technology?
Anyone can read you specifications and repeat what they've heard
is good, but without years of professional hands-on experience,
how can they really help you make the right decision? Designing
your next live-sound system, whether that be a personal setup
for those weekend coffee-house gigs or a large-scale design for
touring sound or a 5,000 seat church with the ability to record
the entire service to multi-track, I can help you find the right
solution for your needs through the most personalized,
one-on-one consultation in the business.

Pictured above, mixing for broadcast
television in the studio of Blackhawk Ministries. Our
system consists of a Digidesign VENUE console for FOH linked
directly to a ProTools HD3 Accel DAW. With use of the
Control24, I'm providing a live monitor mix to our
closed-circuit network. At home in my own ProTools HD3
Accel with a Control24 I'm re-mixing to picture for television
broadcast the following week.

"Having toured as the lead
keyboardist for "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat" and "South Pacific" and playing in a large
praise band for my church, I understand the demands the
musicians require to hear what is going on. Ironically,
most sound engineers are NOT musicians believe it or not.
But having also mixed FOH sound for many concerts as well as the
large Praise & Worship band at my church, I fully understand the
tools needed by the FOH engineer to properly mix the show or
service. Because I am a Christian myself (and VERY proud
of that), I very much enjoy working with other churches to help
bring their systems up to date. Everything I do, I
take pride in providing my clients with professional advice,
personalized service before and long after the sale, fair prices
and doing it all with integrity and honesty.
